People have diverse ideas about atonement because the topic is so multi-faceted. In this particular lesson, I highlight some foundational truths that center around the imagery of "cleansing" and "purification." However, the questions I get most often about Atonement are tied to Jesus and the role of the Messiah in Atonement. I answer the often-asked question but also explain why the question I am most often asked is a tainted one.

Disclaimer: I speak to a mixed audience of Jews and Christians, and in Part 2, I explain the "Replacement Theology" (often embraced out of ignorance) in the most unflattering terms. Theological Supersessionism aims at the erasure of Jewish identity, so I get very frank about its dangers. Unfortunately, the most common Christian notions about sacrifices in the Torah are informed by a supersessionist take on the topic. Apologies if you find this hard to take in. Agree, disagree, but be advised...
